What to watch, what to watch? It’s the eternal question that plagues us all in this modern age of content overload — especially those of us looking for something to stream in a deep state of couch lock.

Want to avoid getting lost in an endless, paranoid scroll through infinite streaming options this month? Here’s a streamlined selection of stoney shows and movies to watch high, available on major streaming platforms in March 2019.

Russian Doll — Netflix

What is it?

The latest bingeworthy Netflix series, co-created by Amy Poehler and star Natasha Lyonne, follows a New York game developer caught in a “Groundhog Day” time loop where she dies repeatedly and ends up back at her 36th birthday party.

Why watch high?

Russian Doll” is a trippy, heartfelt, hilarious farce that feels indelibly (and delightfully) of the moment — capturing the people, places, and recreational weed smoking of 2019 city life with stoner logic and satirical flair. And it’s only eight 25-minute episodes long, so it’s the perfect piece of streaming content to knock out in one night after a thorough evening sesh at home.

Where and when to watch

“Russian Doll” premiered on Netflix in February 2019, but it’s far from too late to take this fun, strange trip.

Velvet Buzzsaw — Netflix

What is it?

A truly bizarre and witty horror movie that savagely satirizes the modern art world. It’s also the second team-up of writer/director Dan Gilroy and star Jake Gyllenhaal.

Why watch high?

“Velvet Buzzsaw” is so full of strange visuals, performances, and genre-bending that it practically demands to be watched under the hyper-sensory influence of the cannabis high. There’s also a conspicuous amount of vaping going on in the movie itself.

Where and when to watch

This one is another case of catch-up with Netflix. Velvet Buzzsaw premiered on the streaming service Feb. 1, 2019, but do yourself a favor and watch while lit this month, preferably at the nearest possible toke sesh.

‘Free Solo’ — Hulu

What is it?

One of 2018’s Academy Award nominations for best documentary that follows Alex Honnold as he becomes the first person to free-solo-climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in California.

Why watch high?

It’s a gorgeously shot nature epic with a nail-biting human story at the center. Take a dab or two and revel in the shock, awe, and wonder.

Where and when to watch

“Free Solo” is set to stream on Hulu on March 13, 2019.

‘Arrested Development (Season 5B)’ — Netflix

What is it?

Now the second half of the latest season of the long-running show about a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one streaming service who had no choice but to keep them all together.

Why watch high?

The first half of “Arrested Development” ’s fifth season debuted almost a year ago on Netflix. And while “Arrested Development” has garnered controversy, both on and off screen, we’ve come this far with the dysfunctional Bluth family and their dysfunctional show. So let’s get high, maybe enjoy a few laughs, and see how this story turns out.

Where and when to watch

“Arrested Development” Season 5B is set tostream on Netflix on March 15, 2019.

High Maintenance’ (Season Finale) — HBO

What is it?

The season finale of the anthology show about a guy who sells weed and the colorful, rotating cast of Brooklynite clients.

Why watch high?

“High Maintenance” is a sweeping saga of American cannabis use in the post-legalization age of weed.

Where and when to watch

The Season 3 finale of “High Maintenance” is set to stream on HBO Now on March 17, 2019. New episodes air on Sundays, and are available to stream after their respective air dates.

Cold War’ — Amazon

What is it?

A 2018 Oscar contender for Best Foreign Language Film, “Cold War” is a jazzy, brooding romance set in Poland and France from the 1940s through the 1960s.

Why watch high?

Between this movie and the multiple-Oscar-winning “Roma” (also currently available to stream on Netflix), black-and-white cinematography is making a big comeback. Do yourself a favor, settle in with your favorite couch-lock strain and let the romantic, uncannily gorgeous black-and-white cinematography of “Cold War” wash over you.

Where and when to watch

Cold War” will be available to stream on Amazon Prime March 22.

‘Inherent Vice’ — HBO

What is it?

Director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s heavy-psych adaptation of Thomas Pynchon‘s hippie-noir novel, starring Joaquin Phoenix as pothead private investigator Doc Sportello, surely a new icon of weed culture.

Why watch high?

If we were to contemplate a new stoner movie canon for the 21st century, “Inherent Vice” would undoubtedly be at the top of the heap — a smart, comic, whimsically dark meditation on a bygone golden era of counterculture, all executed with a style that mimics the weed-fueled madness of its strange plot and literary characters.

Where and when to watch

“Inherent Vice” is leaving HBO March 31, 2019, so now is a great time to watch this new stoner classic before it goes away.
