In a swift move, the City Council of Seattle has voted to decriminalize psilocybin, ayahuasca, ibogaine, and non-peyote-derived mescaline.

This is technically a decriminalization of the psychedelics, but it is expanded to protect them for “religious, spiritual, healing, or personal growth practices.” This in effect legalizes the plants and allows therapeutic services to open in the city.

“This is a practice as old as humanity itself and it is time to incorporate this opportunity to heal into our toolbox here in Washington state,” says Jesse Salomon. “We should not deny ourselves the benefits of these services when there is so much suffering in our communities.”
