According to a new study published within the last few months, legalizing cannabis is directly tied to lower risks of lung injuries from contaminated vapes. This research project was stemmed from a 2019 outbreak of lung injuries related to contaminated cannabis vapes.

The researchers, those at John Hopkins, New York University and the American Heart Association reached the conclusion this last month. The research included information and analysis of cannabis laws in over 13 states and the correlation to lung injuries.

Although it is true that more people vape cannabis in states that are legalized, the amount of those receiving lung injuries from these vapes are significantly lower than those in states where marijuana is illegal. One can only assume that the regulations and production quality in states with legal and recreational marijuana are much higher than those without.

Within the research, it is stated that, “state-level cannabis vaping prevalence was not positively associated with e-cigarette or vaping product-use-associated lung injury (EVALI) caseload, even after accounting for state cannabis policies.” In some states even, there was an inverse correlation between lung injuries and amount of those using cannabis vapes.

As more states legalize marijuana, we can expect to see a even larger drop in lung related injuries due to local and state regulations on these products.
