The cannabis community is tight-knit. It’s the result of so many businesses figuring it out as they go along with a series of occupational challenges that bind us together. And despite the hardships we may face, at the end of the day it’s still a thing of wonder that we get to work with such empathetic and caring people. Walk into any dispensary and you’ll see what I mean—chances are the first thing you’ll see is a smiling face, greeting you to the store with a warm welcome.

It should come as no surprise, then, that this fledgling community should be such a generous one, too. Many cannabis entrepreneurs care deeply about giving back to causes near and dear to their hearts. In the spirit of spreading the love, we’ve compiled a few of our favorites.

Here are the cannabis businesses invested in giving back to their communities (that you should most definitely be supporting).

Bloom Farms

Location: California

Based in the stunning Sierra Foothill mountains, Bloom Farms is one of the cannabis industry’s greatest charitable advocates. They’re extremely passionate about social good, so much so that they label themselves as a “1-for-1” company with their main value listed as “give something (amazing) back.”

For every purchase of a Bloom Farms’ products, they’ll donate a healthy meal to someone in need. They’ve donated over a million meals to food-insecure individuals since 2015. They continue to ramp up their efforts as much as possible with promotional “2 for 1” campaigns (like last year’s involvement in the United Nations’ World Food Day).

Heavy Grass

Location: California

SoCal’s latest cannabis brand is all about the musical life. Launched last year, Heavy Grass utilizes advanced indoor growing techniques to yield some of the finest flower on the coast. The Heavy Grass collective is also keenly devoted to acting as a patron for the arts and music. They donate a portion of proceeds to charities like the T.J. Martell Foundation, MusiCares, and Music Saves Lives with the hopes of giving back to the arts community.

Weed for Good

Location: California

Founded in San Francisco but operating across the entire state of California is Weed For Good, a cannabis non-profit. Their mission is to provide free medical cannabis to low-income patients suffering from chronic and terminal illnesses. They do so by working with a variety of community organizations from hospitals and other non-profits and are run largely by volunteers relying on the generosity of folks like you and me to keep the good work coming. What are you waiting for? Head to their page and donate that $5 you would have spent on a latte for a much greater cause right now.

Goldleaf

Location: Ohio

If you’ve ever lovingly pinned an image of a cannabis tracking notebook on Pinterest, chances are you’re already familiar with Goldleaf. They’re a Cincinnati-based company specializing in elegant printed supplies for the cannabis industry, including journals, educational prints, and more.

However, they’re more than just another pretty cannabis product. Goldleaf teamed up with Lightshade Dispensaries in Colorado last year to create Project Sanctuary, a non-profit dedicated to helping veterans reacclimate into their communities. The two brands joined forces to create a series of botanical prints for sale, with 100% of profits going to Project Sanctuary.

Responsible Jane

Location: Colorado

You can think of Responsible Jane as Weed for Good’s East Coast cousin. They’re here to ameliorate the silly problem that is the fact most non-profits won’t even accept donations from someone in the cannabis industry.

As a non-profit, Responsible Jane helps facilitate this process by finding deserving organizations to give your money to. These can include anything from local community organizations to larger medical research programs and beyond. They even go so far as to offer community grants up to $5,000 and could probably (wink) use some support.

Tokeativity

Location: Oregon

Tokeativity is all about ladies celebrating ladies. This badass group of women host a variety of female-centric cannabis events nationwide that happen to be some of the most loving cannabis gatherings you could ever hope to attend. It’s chock-full of excellent resources, including a jobs board, a work for trade area, online classes, and more.

Even better? They donate to a variety of non-profits that help empower women including ChickTech.org, Planned Parenthood, Warrior Sisters, Women of Wisdom, and Mothers Advocating for Medical Marijuana.

MagicalButter

Location: Florida

You can find MagicalButter just about everywhere cannabis is, spreading cheer with every move. For starters, they donated 420 MagicalButter MB2e machines to medical cannabis patients in Puerto Rico during the 2018 Puerto Rico MedCann Biz Conference.

There’s also CEO Garyn Angel’s charity, Cheers to Goodness Foundation, that was designed to help families with critically ill kids get the medicine they need. They even cover those in need of medical and relocation expenses by offering monthly assistance.
