Targets in Minnesota are quietly getting into the marijuana business.
In 10 stores within the state (which is where Target is headquartered), some drinks infused with THC are going to appear on shelves. This is a huge step towards the mainstream for THC drinks, but comes at a difficult time.
At the same moment this is happening in Minnesota, there is a potential that federal lawmakers will recriminalize hemp-derived THC, thereby making these sales federally illegal.
Nonetheless, this is an exciting move and one that could grow well beyond Minnesota if it does well there.
“While we’ve seen major state-level distributors and large alcohol retailers like Total Wine enter the space, we haven’t yet seen a true retail behemoth take the plunge. That changed today,” Aaron Edelheit, CEO of Mindset Capital, wrote on Friday.
The brands that were apart of the launch were Birdie, Cann, Gigli, Hi Seltzer, Indeed, Señorita, Stigma, Surly, Trail Magic, Wonder, Wyld, and Wynk.
Target has started selling hemp beverages in a 10 store pilot in Minnesota today. This is monumental news for the hemp beverage space & I’m super excited as one of my portfolio brands & personal favorites, Trail Magic, is part of the launch. What a great day for hemp beverages!
