As of today, citizens of Toronto are able to order marijuana delivery through their Uber Eats app. This is the first time in the world that cannabis is able to be delivered in a major delivery platform.

They’re partnering with Leafly to get this done.

“We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, which will help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving,” said Lola Kassim, General Manager of Uber Eats Canada. “Over the last few years, we have invested heavily in our delivery business and selection has expanded tremendously. Uber Eats has grown quickly to become a versatile platform usable by diverse businesses large and small.”

One can’t help but wonder if this is a test run for a future expansion into United States territory, probably starting with Colorado and California. This year, Apple has started allowing apps like Eaze to get paid directly in their apps for marijuana purchases, so nothing is stopping Uber Eats from making the same moves in legal states.
