Senator Bernie Sanders is working overtime towards ending the infamous drug war and federally legalizing marijuana. Senator Sanders has stated multiple times in the past of his support on the pressing issue. At a town hall in the state of Iowa, Sanders issued multiple comments on federal legalization, “My own view is that the so-called war on drugs has been an abysmal failure. It has destroyed god knows how many lives, disproportionately African American and Latino…What you are now seeing is a radical change of consciousness with regard to that war. You are seeing state after state after state legalizing marijuana.”

According to Marijuana Moment, Sanders stated afterwards that he is very pleased with the progress being made in individual states. The Vermont senator explained that along with a $15 minimum wage being passed, he expects marijuana legalization to follow. Sanders also called on President Biden to make an executive order to end marijuana prohibition.

During president Biden’s campaign he worked closely with Sanders in vouching for marijuana legalization, no action from the president has been taken yet. President Biden after being elected stated that he was concerned that supporting legalized marijuana would affect his election results. Hopefully within the next couple months sweeping reform for federal legalization will come to fruition with the help of President Biden and Senator Sanders.
