Three cabin crew members for British Airways were reportedly hospitalized after unknowingly consuming marijuana-infused gummies handed to them by a passenger following a transatlantic flight.

According to a report first published by The Sun, the incident occurred after a recent flight from Heathrow Airport to Los Angeles. The sweets, said to contain as much as 300 milligrams of THC—the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis—were allegedly shared among crew members only after the aircraft had landed in the United States.

A source cited by the outlet said the gummies were consumed while staff were riding a crew bus to their hotel after touchdown. “Tired staff gratefully gobbled them up,” the source said, noting that “almost immediately BA staff realised something was wrong.”

By the time the group arrived at the hotel, three crew members who had eaten multiple sweets reportedly began experiencing severe symptoms, including what were described as “out-of-body” sensations. They allegedly felt panicked, frightened and out of control. As their condition worsened, the affected employees were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Because the edibles were not consumed until after the flight had concluded, passengers on the Heathrow-to-Los Angeles route were not impacted. A replacement crew was dispatched to operate the return flight, while the affected staff members were flown back to the United Kingdom days later as passengers.

In a statement, a spokesperson for British Airways confirmed that “a small number of our crew reported feeling unwell at their hotel and have since recovered.” The airline added that there was “no impact on our customers.”

An internal investigation has reportedly been launched to identify the passenger who distributed the gummies. The source told The Sun that the matter is being treated “very seriously,” and suggested the individual involved could face potential police charges.

Authorities have not publicly commented on whether any arrests have been made.
