Montrezl Harrell, a player of the Charlotte Hornets is facing felony drug charges after being arrested for possession of over 3 pounds of marijuana. This incident occurred sometime over the last week during a traffic stop. Harrell was pulled over by a Kentucky state trooper around 10 am and was asked to step out of the vehicle after the officer noticed the odor of marijuana.

Harrell admitted to possessing marijuana and produced a small amount from his sweatpants. After a search of the car, officers found 3 pounds of vacuum-sealed cannabis in a backpack in the back seat. Harrell was charged with trafficking less than five pounds of marijuana.

Within Kentucky, possessing or trafficking more than 8 ounces but less than 5 pounds of marijuana is a Class D Felony for first time offenders. This felony is punishable by 1-5 years of incarceration with fines ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Harrell, who has been in the league for 7 years was acquired by the hornets last February. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the upcoming season.
