A new Rasmussen Reports poll came out that asked Americans what they think about the risks of cannabis. The sample size was 1,234 adults, and they were specifically asked “How dangerous is marijuana use?”
Only 37% of those surveyed believe that it’s harmful. 13% believe that it’s very harmful. The rest of them believe it’s safe.
55% say it’s not dangerous, and within that range, 27% believe it is not at all dangerous.
These numbers have fluctuated over the years, with a different poll finding 42% of respondents believing cannabis to be dangerous in September of last year, and a 2022 poll finding 35% finding it dangerous. So these numbers haven’t changed much in this decade, hovering around the same area. Still, it’s a fascinating look into how Americans view marijuana over the years. The fact that it’s safety has maintained a majority over the years is certainly a good sign for its eventual legalization.
