2001: A Space Odyssey is phenomenal. It’s a breathtaking piece of cinema that changed the way we saw the medium, and what it can do. Needless to say, the images are still fresh in our cultural consciousness. So what better symbol than the monolith to bring to the DEA’s headquarters in an act of defiance and protest against their antiquated view on drug justice?

So goes the mindset of an activist group called Anonymous Apes, who dressed in ape costumes and brought a giant monolith to the front of their building, in hopes of sparking an evolutionary jump in the actions of the DEA against illicit drugs.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration of the Department of Justice has failed the American people for too long,” said Anonymous Apes in a statement. “This monolith of government oppression has imprisoned 10’s of millions of American citizens for seeking healing relief with natural substances.”

After setting up the huge monolith, the activists ate bananas in front of it.

“WE DEMAND THAT THE MONOLITH OF THE WAR ON DRUGS COMES DOWN, RECORDS ARE EXPUNGED AND CLEMENCY IS GIVEN NOW! APES TOGETHER STRONG!”

In the original film, the monolith would show up whenever a giant leap in evolution would occur. It paved the way for apes to grow into humans, for humans to scour space, and for the evolution of a Superhuman race.

This is fun.
