Donald Trump went on Lex Fridman’s podcast last week and showered support onto the marijuana legalization effort in his home state of Florida, all but assuring it’ll pass in November.

“It’s got to be done in a very concerted, lawful way. And the way they’re doing it in Florida, I think is going to be actually good. It’s going to be very good, but it’s got to be done in a good way. It’s got to be done in a clean way,” Trump stated in a social media post before his appearance.

This is the farthest that Trump has gone to support marijuana, previously saying it should left to the states to decide. But now that marijuana legalization has become more and more popular, Trump clearly sees it as a winning hand.

The main difference he sees with the Florida resolution and the New York one is that he doesn’t feel like people should be able to smoke in public. “You’ve got to have a system where there’s control.”

“As we legalize it throughout the country—whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing—it’s awfully hard to have people all over the jails that are in jail right now for something that’s legal. So I think obviously there’s a lot of sentiment to doing that.”
