When cannabis started becoming legal around the country, it was at the forefront of higher wages. It made sense at the time, considering the idea of legal cannabis was in and of itself progressive.

However, over the years wages have caught up and what once was a prosperous way to live has become basically minimum wage earning.

A new article at MJBizDaily dives into this trend-line. They speak to speak to businesses who simply can’t keep up with minimum wage hikes happening across the country. However, the hikes are expected in a field that requires specialized knowledge and sales skills. This is especially the case in states that only have medical marijuana — a job that then implies medical expertise.

As with every industry, higher pay equals higher level employees, and staying competitive is getting more difficult over time.

One business owner tells MJBizDaily, “It’s just going to be another blow to these businesses. It’s why we need federal reform. If businesses could get rid of 280E, they could pay their employees more.”
